Death

Top right painting in the Pipes collection. To complete the circle, death is an inevitable part of creation. A key to new life. Sometimes new beginnings are only possible when an old habit or bad experience has been died off. In Hawaiian mythology, sacred stories are differentiated from other stories by the fact that they are only told in the daylight out of respect to the gods. This is represented by the butterflies, as butterflies only fly in the day. The woman turns into a wolf, as, according to Pawnee Creation Legend, the wolf was the first animal
to die.
