This piece, Renewal, follows on Illegitimi Non Carborundum. An individual steps out of the group and takes the bird’s eye view to be able to see what really matters. The scissors are used to cut the emotional cords to the old life and bad experiences, initiating the healing process. The coordinate painting completes the process by representing the consistency, like a drumbeat, of the work that needs to be done, the time and space that might be required bring it full circle.

nimmt die Vogelperspektive ein, um zu sehen was wirklich wichtig ist. Die Scheren stehen für das
Durchschneiden der emotionalen Bände zum alten Leben und schlechten Erfahrungen und initiieren
den Heilungsprozess.

Illegitimi Non Carborundum

The title is in Latin and translates loosely to ‘Don’t let the bastards grind you down’ coming from the graffiti that is said to have run in prisoner of war camps during WWII. The buttons in the background represent the beat of a military drum, that suppresses individualism and potential. In the middle of the painting is the ‘battlefield of lost potential’ surrounded by modern office buildings that are symbols for everyday stereotyping and stress.

Der Titel ist lateinisch und bedeutet so viel wie ‘Lasst
euch von den Bastarden nicht unterkriegen’. Dieser Slogan wurde wohl während des zweiten Weltkriegs an Wände von Kriegsgefangenenlagern geschrieben. Die Knöpfe im Hintergrund symbolisieren einen militärischen Trommelschlag, der Individualismus und Potentiale unterdrückt. In der Mitte des Bildes befindet sich das ‘Schlachtfeld der ungenutzten Potentiale’ umgeben von modernen Bürohochhäusern, die Hektik und Gleichmachung des Alltags symbolisieren.
